Support of active citizenship and involvement of youth in public life in Georgia, 2011


AGORA Central Europe

The project entitled “Support of active citizenship and involvement of youth in public life in Georgia” was implemented by Agora Central Europe together with People in Need and Transition Online in eight municipalities in the Western Georgia (Ambrolauri, Samtredia, Terjola, Tkibuli, Kutaisi, Chokhatauri, Ozurgeti a Lanchkhuti) in the period of 01/03/2011 – 31/12/2012. The target groups of the project included students of secondary schools, students of journalism, secondary school teachers and representatives of local public administration. The general aim of the project is to increase the quality of citizen competencies of the Georgian generation close to productive age and to enable a gradual increase of its influence on public life in Georgia. The project is planned till October 2012. Among the main activities carried out by Agora this year was the summer school of democracy, study visit of Georgian teachers to the Czech Republic, and first round of seminars at schools. Students are making evident progress in their democratic skills and teachers and schools are keen on implementing new methods of teaching. Therefore the project can be regarded as successful.
