Youth Active Involvement in Community support of Civil Society Development, 2012


People in Need

Project of People in Need “Youth Active Involvement in Community _support of Civil Society Development” was implemented in Imereti region in 8 municipalities of Imereti and Guria regions of Georgia, namely: Tkibuli, Terjola, Samtredia, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Zestaponi, Lanchkhuti and Kutaisi.

The project envisaged two main objectives:

  1. Activation of young people and support for the representatives of civil initiatives to ensure their participation in the region's public life
  2. Enhanced capacities of local government representatives and teachers concerning the involvement of active youth in the region's public life


Main project outputs:

Cooperation with local authorities: main component of cooperation was capacity buliding of public officials in the field of Public cooperation in the community, Youth Policy and Strategic planning. In addition to trainings and seminars, they were involved in the joint summer cam together with the representatives of youth initiatives.

Support of youth initiatives and NGOs: Sustainability of youth initiatives and newly established NGOs was ensured by the regulation of the grant contest, where the main criteria for recieveing small grants was feasible plan for their capacity building and drafting the minimum two year strategic plan of organization. This will enable NGOs to become a real players of regional civil society and contribute to the youth participation in the community life in long term perspective.

New methodology at schools: Teachers in 50 schools are introduced new methodologgy of teaching human rights though documentary films. Attractive toolkit with documentary films provokes discussion of controversial topics at schools. Teachers are bringing new methods at their lessons, involving more and more studenst every year.

Overal implementation of project is greatly supported by cooperation with partners and stakeholders: Community Development Association XXI (local partner), Agora CE, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affares and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
