Developing new media skills in Moldova, 2013

The project aimed to identify the best ideas and the most committed citizens, and it enabled new media projects and enthusiasts to achieve their full potential.

The project objectives were:

1. The target groups will increase their understanding of the power of social and new media, inspiring them to create new, innovative solutions for social problems facing the Moldovan society locally and nationally.

2. A vibrant online, national network consisting of young new media enthusiasts will further transfer the skills on new media tools, blogging, social innovation and promotion through social media acquired within this project .

3. The project's beneficiaries will add innovative new features and possibilities to their existing initiatives and also launch new initiatives based on the lessons learned and best practices from Moldova and worldwide.

4.  The journalists who will benefit from the project will utilize technology to find and tell important stories in a more informative and engaging manner.

Major activities and outputs accomplished:

-          18 New media workshops was held in the regions of Moldova. In total, 276 yougsters were trained.

-          A summer camp designed for the most active participants from the trainings held in the regions, where participants received support for the projects they develop during this event. The Summer Camp event gathered the best 33 participants.

-          Social Innovation Camp and further support for the winning projects. 45 participants attended the event, 4 projects was developedor are under development.

-          Several websites were created: 10 local websites for different regions. 3 websites of projects were improved: www.academianewmedia.md, www.alerte.md, www.sicamp.md.

-          Data journalism bootcamp for journalists, students and aspiring journalists taught by world-renowned experts in the field. 15 participants were trained by 3 experts from Romania.

-          A distance learning course entitled „Social Media for Social Change: Getting it Right From the Very First Moment” was accomplished by 6 participants.

-          Translation of „The Enviromentalist’s Guide to the Media Galaxy“ into Romanian
