Support of development of civil society in selected regions of Moldova

In 2010 Agora CE together with its Czech and Moldovan partners, People in Need and IDIS Viitorul implemented another joint project aimed at support of transformation of Moldovan society. The project had two main target groups – young people – students and local NGOs or citizen initiatives in selected regions of Moldova.

The core activity of project part accomplishing the first aim was a debating competition for students of 8 secondary schools in 4 selected regions of Moldova. The main purpose of the debating competition is to pass on to Moldovan students presenting and debating skills that can help them to urge their opinion and interest in their future civic life.

The project activities of People in Need (PIN) were aimed at building the capacity of small civic initiatives in selected districts of Moldova. The planned activities were successfully implemented as well as expected results and objectives of the project were reached.

In the framework of the project more than 76 participants took part in one or more of the trainings focusing on civic participation in public affairs, project management and work with the media. Nine small projects of local civic initiatives were selected and supported based on a call for proposals open to all civic initiatives. All supported were successfully implemented with continuous technical support from PIN. The projects focused on local issues such as strengthening women’s participation in community, support of elderly people living alone, support of disabled children or renovation and improvement of educational infrastructure. The public and local public authorities were involved in the projects in various ways ranging from public meetings to financial participation.
