A Way to Law – Support of Anti-corruption Activities in Egypt, 2013

The goal of the project was to intensify active participation of non-governmental sector ´s delegates in fighting corruption in Egypt and to organize workshops with the active help of participators. The main activities of the project were two workshops in Egypt and a study visit to the Czech Republic. First three-day workshop was organized in Cairo in March 2013 and 15 delegates of non-governmental sector and individuals working in the area of fighting corruption and functioning of public control in Egypt participated in it. Participators of the workshop had an opportunity to learn about functioning of TI, especially the model of functioning of Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre, Czech legislation and some institutions crucial for fighting corruption in the Czech Republic and funcioning of Czech media. 5 participators were chosen in the end of the workshop, they should analyze the topics concerning fighting corruption.

Participators of the Cairo workshop who were analyzing one of the problematic areas in fighting corruption were invited to Czech Republic. During a study visit in Czech Republic in September 2013 the participators got to know the functioning of TI Czech Republic and specially realization of Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre project. They also visited chosen institutions, some of them play a key role in fighting corruption in Czech Republic, such as Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, The Public Defender of Rights´Office, The Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. They also met representatives of local governments and media. During the second workshop in Cairo which was organized in December 2013 had participants oportunity widly disscus analyses on topicsconcerning fighting corruption. One of the analyzed topic – freee acces to information - was also a starting point for the project realized by TI in 2014, which will aim to introduction of freee acces to information law
