Participation of local partnerships in planning for sustainable development in rural areas, Czech experience for Ukraine, 2010

The project aimed to share knowledge and experiences on sustainable regional development through workshops in Ukraine and implementation of study tours to the Czech Republic.

Thematically related to education in particular, sustainable energy, local fruit, local development projects and sustainable tourism. Excursions included the micro-regions of eastern and northern Moravia and northern Bohemia (Bojkovsko, Opavsko, Novojičínsko, Poodri, Frydlantsko). Five experienced teachers participated in the training activities in Ukraine,  during the study tour  (including a trip to Austria) presentations were given by number of other lecturers and guides  - especially mayors and implementers of  model projects. Lectures were interpreted from Czech to Ukrainian, informal communication and discussions were held in Russian without translation.

Seminars in the Ukraine, Vinnitsa and Luhansk, was attended by 41 persons, in the two study trips participated 30 persons. Participants - representatives of rural municipalities and civic associations - gained personal experience and a number of presentations and texts in Ukrainian language. They use these materials in the  work in their communities. The outputs of the project including design of valuable excursion routes are prepared for use in subsequent projects.

All participating organizations - partners of the project  - acquired a wealth of experience to further cooperation between Czech and Ukrainian NGOs. Ukrainian partners were  PARD from Vinnitsa  and the Regional Agency for Sustainable Development from Luhansk. In the Czech Republic, the  leading organization Veronica was accompanied by the National Network of the Local Action Groups.

The project was supported by the Program of the transformation co-operation  of the Ministry  Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic by CZK  578 591.00.
