The Czech Republic at the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court

 

The 17th session of the Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statue of the International Criminal Court (ASP ICC) takes place from 5 to 12 December 2018 in The Hague. 
 
Head of the Czech delegation, Director of International Law Department of the MFA, Mr. Petr Válek, addressed the ASP with the national statement on 5 December 2018, in which he expressed strong support of the Czech Republic for the International Criminal Court and its irreplaceable role in the fight against impunity. He also recalled that this year brought the long-awaited event, which marked the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Rome Statute: the activation of the jurisdiction of the Court over the crime of aggression. He further stressed the need to uphold the full cooperation of States with the ICC as a necessary precondition for effective and efficient Court. The Czech Republic also informed about the continuing voluntary contributions to the Trust Fund for Victims.

 

On the agenda of this session of the ASP will be plenary segment on cooperation with the ICC with a special focus on financial investigations and agreements on cooperation with the Court. Further topics include the role of victim’s participation and legal representation as well as commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the Rome Statute.
