Central European Glass and Porcelain in Athens

Unique art collection of drinking glass and porcelain from Visegrad Four countries and Austria has been on display in the Athens City Museum since the beginning of May. More than 150 items by about dozen of the Central European companies are presented. Among others, famous Czech brands Moser or Český porcelán participate.

The exhibition “Hot and Cold” was originally designed in cooperation with the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec Nad Nisou in the second half of 2014 during the Czech Presidency of the Platform Culture – Central Europe. Included in the exhibition are not just collectors’ items but predominantly articles of daily use, which is the unique feature of the exhibition. This means that many of the visitors could easily become customers and even users of the exhibited glass and porcelain.

More than hundred people visited the opening ceremony of the “Hot and Cold” exhibition, among them many of Czech expatriates. It wasn’t the first cooperation between the Athens City Museum and the Czech Embassy in Athens. In 2012, they successfully organized an exhibition of contemporary Czech graphic design.
