Creation of the Schengen Area allowed for the abolition of controls at its internal borders and removal of free movement obstacles. In oder to ensure effective functioning and security of the Schengen Area, personal data are processed in the EU information systems for the purposes of deciding on visa applications as well as control of movement in the Schengen Area.
