Unmarried Couples - new regulations

Foreign nationals who are in a partnership with a citizen of the Czech Republic or with a citizen of the EU with temporary residence in the Czech Republic and who do not need a visa for a short-term stay of up to 90 days, can arrive to the Czech Republic on a visa-free basis based on a confirmation for entry issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Entry is allowed only for persons fulfilling stipulations of the Protective Measure of the Ministry of Health: foreign national is in a verifiable permanent relationship and lives in a common household with a citizen of the Czech Republic or with a citizen of the EU with temporary residence in the Czech Republic. Persons fulfilling this definition can receive a confirmation for entry of the partner to the Czech Republic.

PLEASE DO NOT OVERLOOK:

● While we understand the difficulty of personal situations caused by travel restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, arrival of foreign nationals to the Czech Republic during the ongoing pandemic and currently critical situation in the Czech Republic continues to take place with respect to the protection of public health and therefore not as extensively as under standard circumstances.

Issuance of Schengen visas remains largely suspended by all states of the Schengen Area. Return to full Schengen visa issuance in the extent of the pre-COVID period is not possible for the present.

● It is therefore possible, at this moment, to enable entry of those partners who do not need a visa or who are holders of a previously issued Schengen visa. We cannot issue visas for unmarried partners at this moment. We proceed from the currently applicable Protective Measure of the Ministry of Health, which reflects the respective EU guidelines for Schengen visas.

KINDLY FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

A) CZECH CITIZENS WHOSE PARTNERS DO NOT NEED VISAS

1. Send an e-mail to vo1@mzv.cz, containing the following:

1) filled-out Affidavit on Relationship (DOCX, 15 KB)

2) document/s substantiating a permanent relationship and a common household

Do not send: documents related to the present or to the future (newly concluded rental agreements or accommodation confirmation, documents on recent travel or visits, newly issued wedding reservation etc.). By submitting such documents you do not prove existence of permanent partnership and common household, based on which we can issue a document for entry. The target group are partners in a permanent relationship separated by the coronavirus pandemic.

Do not send the following either: photos, print screens of personal correspondence, own description of the relationship or declaration by about the relationship by family or friends – these documents cannot be considered for the issuance of a document for entry

2. Await a reply. Persons who substantiate their permanent relationship will receive the document for entry in most cases in up to one week.

Kindly make sure to dutifully observe these instructions. We treat with priority applications where instructions have been observed. Processing of other applications is more time-consuming. Such applications will therefore be replied to only subsequently.

3. Confirmation for entry should be submitted by the foreign national upon entry to the Czech Republic during passport control. The confirmation does not guarantee passage in transit – transit conditions must be verified with the respective authority of the state through which the transit will take place and with the transportation carrier.

4. By submitting the solemn declaration you undertake to observe the quarantine measures stipulated in the Protective Measure of the Ministry of Health. Your partner is obliged to register himself / herself before the journey at the Regional Hygienic Station according to the place of stay and undergo a COVID-19 test immediately after arrival.
