Travel Medical Insurance

SCHENGEN VISAS

When you apply for a Schengen visa, you need to possess travel medical insurance covering all expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital treatment or death.

The insurance must be valid throughout the entire Schengen Area and cover the entire period of stay (transit).

The minimum coverage must be EUR 30,000.

When travelling based on an invitation officially verified by the Alien Police Service, the insurance coverage referred to therein pertains only to the territory of the Czech Republic. Applicants are therefore requested to arrange coverage for the entire Schengen Area confirming to the above specifications.

LONG-TERM VISAS AND RESIDENCE PERMITS

Medical insurance must cover expenses that the applicant is required to cover during the stay in the event of necessary and urgent health care. This insurance must include costs associated with transport or, in the case of death, costs associated with transfer of physical remains to the state that issued the travel document or to another state in which the applicant resided.

The insurance policy must not exclude coverage for injuries and damage caused by the applicant´s intentional acts, injuries and damage caused by fault or contributory fault on the part of the applicant, and injuries and damage caused as a result of consumption of alcohol, narcotic and psychotropic substances by the applicant.

The minimal coverage must be at least EUR 60,000 without an insurance retention on the amount of the given costs.

A document on medical travel insurance is not required in these cases:

• applicant will participate in the public health insurance (for example when employed, proof of medical travel insurance is required only for the period of entry until the beginning of employment),

• medical costs will be covered on the basis of an international agreement,

• applicant will provide a proof that medical costs will be covered in another manner on the basis of a written undertaking by a legal person, if his/her stay is beneficial for development of spiritual values, protection of human rights or other humanitarian values, protection of the environment, cultural monuments and traditions, advancement of science, education, physical education and sports, on the basis of a written undertaking by a state body or on the basis of an undertaking contained in an official invitation verified by the Alien Police.
