The MFA of the CR Welcomes the Ratification of the Treaty of Accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CR welcomes the decision of the Parliament of the CR, a final step in the first process of Parliamentary ratification of an EU Enlargment Treaty by the CR as fully qualified EU member.(13/12/2005)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the CR welcomes the decision of the Parliament of the CR, a final step in the first process of Parliamentary ratification of an EU Enlargment Treaty by the CR as fully qualified EU member.

On Tuesday 6th December 2005, the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the CR ratified the Treaty of Accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the EU. The Treaty has been previously ratified by the Senate of the Parliament of the CR on 15th September 2005. It was the first ratification of an EU enlargment by the Czech Parliament as an institution of an EU member state. To complete the ratification the agreement of the President of the CR is needed, the ratification papers will then be put in the EU treaties depository in Rome.

The Accession Treaty has been agreed as one document for both countries and signed on 25th April 2005. The ratification process is scheduled to be finished until 31st December 2006. It has been ratified for the moment by following member states: Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Greece, Spain and Estonia.

From the MFA point of view, it is important for Bulgaria and Romania to continue their efforts in the final phase of their preparations. It will enable them to enter the EU on 1st January 2007. The Czech Republic wishes the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to not to be postponed, to avoid a delay of one year.
