Agreement on research in Open Society Archives

 

The agreement on cooperation between International Visegrad Fund and Central European University administering Open Society Archives was signed in a presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout at the Czernin Palace on May 7, 2010.

The agreement was signed by Executive Director of the International Visegrad Fund Petr Vágner and director of the Open Society Archives István Rév.

The International Visegrad Fund offers 10 reserach fellowship grants annually in the Open Society Archives according the agreement. A main part of the Open Society Archives is formed by former Munich archive of the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty which comprises unique pieces of about the Cold War era.

Grants are intended especially for scholars from V4 countries (two grants for each country). Two grants are available for applicants from non-V4 countries.

The cooperation results from a working visit of minister Kohout to Hungary on July 29, 2009. During his stay in Hungary minister Kohout visited the Open Society Archives administred by the Central European University in Budapest. On that Occasion minister Kohout promised to enhance awareness about the Open Society Archives in a public. That´s why the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic suggested to other Visegrad Group countries to involve the International Visegrad Fund in providing grants to scholars not only from V4 but also from other countries.
