Minister Schwarzenberg met Foreign Minister of Argentina

 

The meeting of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg and Foreign Minister of Argentina Héctor Timerman was focused on human rights issues. The meeting was held on March 31 morning during a state visit of President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus in Argentina.

Both minister has been strongly involved in human rights issues. Karel Schwarzenberg was a chairman of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, Héctor Timerman was a co-founder of the Human Rights Watch. Both ministers agreed on further cooperation and initiating EU-Argentina projects in a frame of the EU-Argentina Human Rights Dialogue.

Minister Schwarzenberg appreciated renewal of discussion to the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement enabling opening markets of both unions.

Cooperation in science, research, education and culture was discussed too. Minister Schwarzenberg informed about a delegation of Czech businessmen accompanying president Klaus at his state visit to the Latin America. Karel Schwarzenberg asked Héctor Timerman for cooperation with Czech firms in selected areas.

After a meeting of Presidents of the Czech Republic and Argentina Václava Klause and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, both ministers signed an agreement on cooperation in air services between the Czech Republic and Argentina. The agreement establishes a framework for future cooperation in air services between the Czech Republic and Argentina. There are nor direct air links between both countries at present.
