Minister Kohout held a meeting with the Cuban civil society representative, Rosa María Payá

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Kohout received Rosa María Payá, daughter of Oswaldo Payá Sardiñas, one of the key Cuban opposition leaders, on 3rd of October, 2013.

The personal meeting at the Czernin Palace was held at the occasion of Ms. Payá's attendance of the conference "Civic Society: Freedom Is Not To Be Taken for Granted" held in honor of the Václav Havel Prize's laureate. In the first place, the Minister expressed his commiseration with the death of Ms. Payá's father, which happened in July 2012.

During the interview, the Minister expressed his interest in current events in Cuba and the situation of the Cuban civil society. He asked Rosa María Payá about her impressions of the trips, which were enabled as a consequence of the migration reform passed by the Cuban government in November 2012.

Opinions on freedom of expression, media and conduct of business in Cuba were also discussed, including the role of international community, and European Union in particular, in this respect.
