Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Lubomír Zaorálek attended the joint meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EU and the League of Arab States held in Athens on 10 – 11 June, 2014.
During the plenary session, the ministers discussed the ongoing and future co-operation and commented on the latest political developments in the region. In his address on Syria, Minister Zaorálek focused on bleak prospects of a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis, the issue of foreign agents fighting on either, the side of the Syrian regime or the opposition forces, as well as humanitarian consequences of the conflict, felt also by other countries in the region.
The Athens meeting was a third one of its kind. The EU and LAS ministers met for the first time in Malta in 2008, the second meeting was held in Cairo in 2012.
