Minister Zaorálek Met Ambassadors from Arab Countries

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lubomír Zaorálek received Ambassadors from Arab countries at the Czernin Palace on 17 June 2014. The group was led by its Dean, Algerian Ambassador Belaid Hadjem.

Minister Zaorálek expressed the Czech Republic´s interest in intensifying the mutual Czech-Arab relations. „Let us focus on commerce and trade in particular. That is the area with untapped potential on both sides,“ he said.

During the meeting, Minister Zaorálek discussed the talks he had at the 3rd ministerial meeting of the EU and the League of Arab States last week in Athens, Greece.

Regarding the Czech position on the Israeli-Palestinian issue, Minister Zaorálek assured the Ambassadors about the Czech Republic´s support of the resumption of direct talks between Israelis and Palestinians. Furthermore, the Czech Republic insists on upholding the Quartet principles, calls for refraining from any unilateral steps, including acts of violence and the construction of settlements, as these are unconducive to peaceful resolution of the conflict.

During the meeting, Minister Zaorálek reminded that the Czech Republic is a democratic state based on the rule of law, engaged in fight against international terrorism. The Czech Republice rejects violence and intolerance and is active in supporting inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogue.
