The ministers centred their talks on bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea, in particular on economic cooperation. They also exchanged views on the current situation in Europe and Asia.

The two sides agreed on the excellent quality of the relationship. The Foreign Ministers stated that since their first telephone conference in March 2014, a number of events and projects have been agreed; the most distinctive example of late being the agreement on the planned substantial investment of the Nexen company in the Czech Republic. Ministers also discussed ways to raise the partnership between the Czech Republic and the Republic of Korea to a strategic level.

During the meeting, Minister Zaorálek confirmed his support for efforts to achieve peace in the Korean Peninsula and expressed his concern over the nuclear and ballistic missile programme of the DPRK. Minister Yun Byung-se welcomed the Czech commitment to seeking ways to contribute more actively to the improvement of relations in the Korean Peninsula, on both the bilateral and multilateral levels.

The Ministers noted with pleasure the satisfactory development of trade and economic relations, and discussed opportunities for further broadening the cooperation, including the areas of energy, science and modern technologies. "We agreed we needed to encourage mutual exchange of students. Korean studies in the Czech Republic as well as Czech studies in Korea deserve our support," said Minister Zaorálek.

Both sides also expressed their appreciation for the work of the Czech Centre in Seoul and a lively cultural exchange between the two countries. The Czech Philharmonic recently toured the Republic of Korea, and the Korean National Choir visited the Czech Republic. The National Gallery in Prague plans to open a standing exhibition of Korean art, and an exhibition of historic Czech glass is to be opened in Seoul next year.

Minister Zaorálek pointed out that the Czech Republic was the only Central European country with a direct air link with the Republic of Korea. "We are aware of the significance of tourism exchange and we will continue to focus on this area," added the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During his official visit, Korean Minister Yun Byung-se was also received by the Prime Minister and by the President of the Czech Republic.
