Minister Zaorálek Approves Humanitarian Aid for Palestinian Refugees in Gaza

On July 17, 2014 Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek approved humanitarian aid for population of Palestinian Autonomous Territories. The total of 3 million CZK will be provided from the budget of Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet needs of Palestinian population who were forced to leave their homes due to the last conflict in Gaza.

Humanitarian aid will be disbursed via the UN Office for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which the Czech Republic has collaborated with successfully in the past. This form of financial assistance represents one of the fastest and most efficient ways of help.

As one of few international organizations present in the region on a long-term basis UNRWA can provide the affected population with food and other assistance. The humanitarian aid for Gaza is being allocated based on requests from the Palestinian side, including the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The Czech Republic contributes to the UNRWA humanitarian aid programmes on annual basis with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs committed to continuity of development and humanitarian activities.
