Bandages and other medical material, provided by the Czech Red Cross and financed by the MFA, will be used by Ukrainian medical staff to treat acute burn wounds and other severe injuries of civilians from the eastern regions of Ukraine. “When human lives and health are in danger, it is our duty to help. Part of this concrete assistance effort is the truck fully loaded with medical supplies that arrived to Kyiv today,” said Minister Zaorálek regarding the humanitarian aid delivered to the Ukrainian Red Cross.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will shortly provide funds to purchase much-needed apparatuses for artificial lung ventilation for hospitals in Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv in the east of Ukraine. Another consignment of medical supplies will be sent to the Ukrainian Red Cross in the coming weeks.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Czech Embassy in Kyiv and in cooperation with the Kyiv mission of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, is taking steps to help those who had to leave their homes as a result of Russia’s aggression and its support of the militants. The aim is to address the people’s basic needs as the winter season is approaching.

“As soon as the situation allows, the Czech Republic is ready to take part in the reconstruction of schools and healthcare facilities,” said Minister Zaorálek regarding the Czech Republic’s further assistance to Ukraine.

This year, Minister Zaorálek has already approved five humanitarian aid projects for people in Ukraine who lost their homes or were injured in the ongoing conflict. From the beginning of the new academic year, over seventy students from eastern Ukraine and Crimea will be able to continue their studies in the Czech Republic thanks to the scholarships provided on the basis of the Czech Government’s resolution. There are also NGO projects under way to support the reforms needed for further functioning of Ukraine’s public authorities in the field of education, security, regional media support and public budgets management.
