Martin Tlapa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a working visit to South Africa from 8 to 11 November 2014.
During regular consultations with his counterpart Luwellyn Landers, Deputy Minister Tlapa reviewed bilateral relations between South Africa and the Czech Republic from political and economic perspectives. “South Africa is our most important economic partner in Africa; the mutual trade turnover has increased tenfold over the last 10 years. We can see opportunities in the sectors of machinery, mining, energy, infrastructure, automotive and many others. I am glad that a growing number of Czech companies participate in various fairs in South Africa, either on their own or with MFA´s support”, said Deputy Minister Tlapa.
Deputy Minister Tlapa met Mr. Moses Masango, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on International Relations and Cooperation of the National Assembly; they exchanged views on current international issues.
Deputy Minister Tlapa also met Czech and local businessmen. He visited the Kusile Power Station construction site, where the Czech company Hutní montáže operates. Deputy Minister saw the Tshegofatsong Special School in Mamelodi. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pretoria implemented small-scale development projects at the educational facility in 2013 and 2014.
