Edita Hrdá Appointed as the Managing Director of Americas of EEAS

Czech diplomat Edita Hrdá was appointed as the Managing Director of Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS). The High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini appointed Ambassador Hrdá following a highly competitive selection process. Ambassador Hrdá will be the first Czech in such a high level position in the EEAS since its establishment in 2010.

“Ambassador Hrdá succeeded in highly competitive environment and was appointed to the high level position within the European diplomatic service. It is a great success of Czech diplomacy that has been continuously promoting Czech nationals in the European institutions”, commented the appointment the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek.

Ambassador Hrdá is a senior Czech diplomat with an impressive professional record that, to a large extent, relates to the American continent. She currently serves as the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the United Nations in New York while also serving as the Czech Ambassador to Caribbean Region. Before that, she was holding several high level positions in the MFA, including the posts of Director General, Chief of Cabinet, Director of the American Department, Director of the Department for the Latin America and some other directorial positions.  She also served as the Czech Ambassador to Argentina and Paraguay.

Appointment of Ambassador Hrdá also demonstrates a result of long term efforts of Czech diplomacy to succeed in EEAS that was established after the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty.
