Deputy Minister Tlapa in Myanmar/Burma

 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa paid a working visit to Myanmar/Burma on January 12-14, 2015. He held talks with his counterpart U Than Kyaw and Minister of Foreign Affairs U Wunna Maung Lwin. Martin Tlapa also met with Minister for National Planning and Economic Development Dr. Kan Zaw, Speaker of the House of Representatives U Shwe Mann, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, heads of Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business and local business representatives.

During his meetings Mr. Tlapa reiterated the Czech Republic wished to extend economic cooperation with Myanmar/Burma and to continue with development and transition projects. The Czech Embassy in Yangon, formally reopened in February 2014, will help Czech exporters access the developing market. It will also support local development and transition projects focused on supporting democratic transition of the country, improvement of economic and social conditions of its citizens and development of the civil society.
At the same time, it is essential for the country to continue reform-oriented activities, which will lead to democratization of the society and reduction of ethnic and religious tensions. Deputy Minister Tlapa also reassured the opposition representatives that the Czech Republic was interested in supporting democratization, human rights and development of civil society.
