The Czech Republic ratified the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child

The Czech Republic is a State Party to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child since 1993. The Convention contains rights the State Parties are obliged to guarantee to all persons under the age of 18 without any discrimination. Since 2000, two Optional Protocols to the Convention were adopted – the first one obliging State Parties not to involve children in armed conflict and the second prohibiting sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography. The Czech Republic is party to both Protocols.

The third Optional Protocol, which the Czech Republic has just ratified, establishes a new mechanism of individual communications that allows submission of individual cases of violations of the Convention or any of the other two Protocols. The Protocol came into force on 14th of April 2014. The Czech Republic signed it on 30th of April 2015. The instrument of ratification of the Protocol by the Czech Republic was deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations in New York on 2nd of December 2015.

For the Czech Republic, the Protocol will come into force three months after this day.
