Deputy Minister Smolek Met the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority

 

Deputy Minister Martin Smolek met the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority, Nii Allotey Odunton and Director-General of the Interoceanmetal Joint Organization, Tomasz Abramowski, on January 22, 2016.

The main issues discussed at the meeting were current activities of the International Seabed Authority and questions related to the conservation of marine biological diversity during prospecting and possible future mining of seabed minerals.

The International Seabed Authority is an international organization established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea through which the States Parties to the Convention control activities on the seabed in the areas beyond the limits of national jurisdiction.
