UNESCO´s Director –General to Visit the Czech Republic

Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, visits the Czech Republic on the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek on May 15-17, 2016. The official visit takes place in the period of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of UNESCO and 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV, celebrated in association with this organization.

Irina Bokova will be received by the President Miloš Zeman and also hold talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Kateřina Valachova and Minister of Culture Daniel Herman.

On May 16, at 3 p.m., she will give a lecture on “The Role of Education in the Prevention of Violent Extremism” at the Charles University and meet students and members of the Czech Conference of Rectors and the Czech Commission for UNESCO. During her stay in the Czech Republic, Irina Bokova will visit Lidice Memorial and Průhonice Park where she will meet with the top representatives of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The aim of her visit is to discuss UNESCO´s role in the current international situation and to emphasize the importance the Czech Republic devotes to UNESCO´s activities. It will also bring an opportunity to present to the Director-General the implementation of UNESCO´s projects in the Czech Republic, including the UNESCO´s associated schools project, and to discuss the participation of Czech experts and institutions in the agency’s programs.
