The regular bilateral consultations at Deputy Minister’s level took place in the Czernin Palace on May 23, 2016. The Pakistani delegation was led by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for Europe Raffiuzzaman Siddiqui.

Consultations focused mainly on the economic cooperation and identification of potential for its further expansion. Deputy Minister Stašek expressed general satisfaction over the positive trend in mutual trade exchange. However, both delegations have agreed that there is a great potential in the cooperation in the defense sector and an opportunity for Czech companies to offer high quality products to the armed forces of Pakistan.

During the working lunch, Deputy Minister Tlapa welcomed the Pakistani Government’s efforts to suppress radical anti-government groups in Pakistan and expressed his regret for many lives of Pakistani citizens lost due to terrorist attacks. At the same time, Deputy Minister Tlapa emphasized that human rights standards should be upheld even in the challenging security situation.

Deputy Minister Tlapa also discussed with his Pakistani counterpart the issue of migration. He explained Czech position with regard to the options presented by the EU and encouraged Pakistan to establish closer cooperation in the area of prevention of illegal migration and better use of existing legal instruments.

Both sides also exchanged views on important global issues as well as on developments in the region.
