Deputy Minister Tlapa at 4th Intergovernmental Consultations between the Czech Republic and the State of Israel

 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa participated in the 4th Intergovernmental Consultations between the Czech Republic and the State of Israel chaired by Prime Ministers of both countries in Jerusalem on May 22, 2016. Deputy Minister Tlapa was accompanying the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and members of the Government of the Czech Republic at the meetings with the President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin, the Prime Minister of the State of Israel Benjamin Netanjahu and the Speaker of Kneset Juli-Joel Edelstein. Martin Tlapa also held separate consultations with the Director General of the Israeli MFA Dore Gold and together with the Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mládek inaugurated the well-attended Czech-Israeli Business Forum organized in cooperation with the chambers of commerce SPaD and CISOK.

During his bilateral consultations with the Director General Dore Gold, Deputy Minister Tlapa focused on cooperation between the Czech Republic and the State of Israel at international fora, the current situation and perspectives of cooperation between the EU and Israel, development of the conflict in Syria and the Czech and Israeli perception of the regional role of Iran. Deputy Minister Tlapa put a special emphasis on the Middle East Peace Process and stressed the interest of the Czech Republic to uphold the active engagement of the Czech Republic in the peace process. He also assured the Israeli side about the readiness to assist both parties in the conflict resolution. Within the bilateral agenda, both sides stressed the interest to proceed with realization of specific development projects; and welcomed the launching of cooperation in new promising fields of cyber security, science, research and innovations, economy, investments, healthcare, environment, tourism, social services and others, as reflected in the list of the signed agreements.

On the sidelines of the 4th Intergovernmental Consultations both sides signed the Joint Statement by Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and the State of Israel on Czech-Israeli Intergovernmental Consultations, Declaration of Intent on International Development Cooperation between Israel´s Agency for International Development Cooperation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mashav) and Czech Development Agency (CzDA), Joint Declaration by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space of the State of Israel and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, Joint Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in Tourism between the Ministry of Tourism of the State of Israel and the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic, Programme of Co-operation in the Field of Education, Science and Culture between the Government of the State of Israel and the Government of the Czech Republic for the Years 2016 – 2019, Memorandum of Understanding between the National Security Authority of the Czech Republic and the National Cyber Security Authority of the State of Israel on Cyber Security Cooperation.

The Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka was accompanied during his visit to Israel by the Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mládek, the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Michaela Marksová, the Minister of Health Svatopluk Němeček, the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Kateřina Valachová, the Minister for Regional Development Karla Šlechtová, the Minister of Environment Richard Brabec, the Minister of Culture Daniel Herman, the Director of the National Security Office Dušan Navrátil, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Martin Tlapa and the Director of the Czech Development Agency Michal Kaplan. The official delegation was also accompanied by thirty members of the business delegation.

The Intergovernmental Consultations, which are conducted only with Israel, Slovakia and Poland, were held with Israel for the first time in the year 2011; the forthcoming 5th Czech-Israeli consultations are planned in the year 2018 in Prague.
