Deputy Minister Tlapa held political consultations with Ethiopia

On the 2nd of June 2016 the Czernin Palace hosted the 5th round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and Ethiopia at the level of the Deputy/State Ministers. The consultations were held between the Deputy Minister Martin Tlapa and his Ethiopian counterpart State Minister Taye Atske-Selassie.

The discussion focused mainly on the possibilities of intensification of economic collaboration between both countries. The volume of the mutual trade has been growing in the recent years, but it still remains behind its potential. Deputy Minister Tlapa expressed his wish to welcome in the Czech Republic the Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs accompanied by a business delegation.

The consultations offered an opportunity to evaluate the foreign development cooperation between both countries. Both sides regard the collaboration as successful and wish that it continues in the following years.

Both sides also discussed the issues of upholding of human rights and exchanged their views on the issues of migration. Ethiopia is a transit country for illegal migration and welcomes the collaboration with the EU in solving its root causes.

Both sides consulted also the developments in the Horn of Africa region. Deputy Minister Tlapa appreciated in this regard Ethiopia´s role in ensuring security and stability in this area, especially in Somalia.
