International Space Security Conference

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivo Šrámek opened today the International Space Security Conference: “Advancing the Trilateral Europe - U.S. – Japan Space Security Partnership”. The Conference is organized on June 6-7, 2016, at the premises of the Czernin Palace by the Prague Security Studies Institute (PSSI) together with its principal cosponsor the Secure World Foundation (SWF) under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic.

This third gathering of PSSI’s Space Security Conference Series will focus on the growing intersection of space security and terrestrial geopolitical events. It will review steps that have been taken by European countries, the EU, the U.S. and Japan to address nationally and internationally the increasingly complex and fast-moving space security developments, including efforts to align national space security priorities with various multilateral efforts. The conference will be attended by over a hundred experts from various countries, including representatives from the European External Action Service, the European Commission, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Airforce Space Command, Japan’s and France’s Ministry of Defense, as well as prominent non-governmental and commercial entities. The topics of this year’s conference will include: trilateral cooperation to strengthen space resilience; implications of hostile acts on sustainability of outer space activities; threats of radiofrequency spectrum interference and other reversible counterspace actions; international norms of behavior to promote space protection; authorizing and supervising in-space operations; dual-use aspects of debris remediation techniques.
