Ministr Zaorálek met Asian Ambassadors

 

On 23 June 2016 Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lubomír Zaorálek attended a working lunch with the ambassadors of Asian countries that are resident in the Czech Republic. The lunch was hosted by H. E. Mr. Narong Sasitorn, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand.

In his opening remarks, Minister Zaorálek mentioned the high importance of connectivity between Europe and Asia, which creates opportunities in many fields such as transport, digital markets, financial issues and “people to people” relations. Minister Zaorálek presented a long list of recent events and measures that demonstrate the importance of Asia in the Czech foreign policy.

Primarily, he mentioned the visits of Presidents of Mongolia, Republic of Korea and People´s Republic of China in the Czech Republic, the establishment of strategic partnerships with Republic of Korea and People’s Republic of China, and his visits to Indonesia, Myanmar/Burma, Malaysia and Vietnam, where he was accompanied by robust business delegations. The ASEM Rectors Conference, which took place in Prague in April 2016, was a major success. Minister Zaorálek also described measures implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to boost economic diplomacy with Asian countries.

During the lunch, the current situation in the EU was discussed, including the British referendum, migration issues and economic performance of Europe. Ambassadors congratulated Minister Zaorálek on the achievements of the Czech V4 Presidency. They also informed Minister Zaorálek about economic opportunities in Asia.
