Minister Zaorálek to Visit Belarus

Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek will pay an official visit to the Republic of Belarus on June 29-30, 2016. The visit will focus on current regional issues and assessment of options for strengthening cooperation of both countries with emphasis on economy and trade.

Minister Zaorálek will discuss with Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei the democratization process in Belarus and examine possible ways for cooperation between Belarus and the EU within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. Their agenda will also cover relevant international issues, including developments in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

Minister Zaorálek will meet with President Aleksandr Lukašenko, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Lidija Jermošina and representatives of civil society and democratic opposition. He will also officially open a new building of the Czech embassy in Minsk.

The visit takes place in a period of change in EU-Belarus relations and corresponds to the objectives of the Czech foreign policy to continue in profound cooperation of both countries after the EU decision to lift most of restrictive measures against Belarus.
