Judge Ivana Hrdličková Re-elected as President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon

 

On 4 July 2016, Judge Ivana Hrdličková was re-elected as President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. Judge Hrdličková, who has served as President of the Special Tribunal since 1 March 2015, was re-elected for another term of office of 18 months beginning on 1 September 2016. At the same time, Judge Ralph Riachi of Lebanon was re-elected  as Vice President of the Special Tribunal.

Judge Hrdličková was appointed an Appeals Chamber Judge of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in November 2012.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon in The Hague is an international criminal tribunal established by an agreement between the United Nations and the Lebanese government to carry out the investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the 14 February 2005 assassination of Rafic Hariri, the former Lebanese prime minister, and the deaths of 22 others.
