Deputy Minister Tlapa Addressed the 14th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIV)

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Martin Tlapa, Head of Delegation of the Czech Republic at the UNCTAD XIV, delivered a national statement in the General Debate on July 20, 2016. UNCTAD XIV takes place from 17 to 22 July, 2016 in Nairobi, Kenya.

In his statement, Deputy Minister Tlapa mentioned that UNCTAD should remain the focal point in the United Nations for the integrated treatment of trade and development and interrelated issues in the areas of finance, technology, investment and sustainable development. It should closely cooperate with other international organisations such as ILO, WTO and OECD, although their work should not overlap.

He further stated that UNCTAD priorities should include the most vulnerable economies, in particular the Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing Countries, African economies and fragile states.

He specifically spoke of importance of those programmes of UNCTAD that tackle inequalities between urban and rural areas and between men and woman as economic players.
