Deputy Foreign Minister Tlapa Met with Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Kenya

On 19 July 2016, during his working visit in the Republic of Kenya, the Deputy Minister Martin Tlapa held a bilateral meeting with Minister of Industry and Trade Adan Mohamed and his Deputy in charge of international trade Chris Kiptoo.

During the meeting, the both sides focused their attention on the opportunities of mutual economic cooperation, with emphasis on economic potential offered not only at the Kenyan market, but also at the joint East African market of 150 mil people, comprised in the so-called East African Community. Both sides noted that due to the complementarity of the Czech and the Kenyan economies, there are real opportunities for the sector, especially in the area of agriculture and food technology, medical technology, building materials and renewable energy sources, which can help further increase the mutual trade and the development of economic cooperation.

Given that Kenya belongs, due to the country’s access to international trade and foreign investment, to the most open economies of the African countries, there is an opportunity for Czech companies in the listed sectors to identify, besides business opportunities, also a wide range of opportunities for investments.

Both sides also discussed the current economic situation in Eastern Africa and the European Union, including the impact of "Brexit" on the development of the economies of the EU Member States and Kenya.

Following the previous meeting with the Kenyan Foreign Minister Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Minister Martin Tlapa held talks also with the Deputy Minister Monica Juma, with whom he discussed the outcomes of the talks with the Minister, particularly the details of  establishing a regular political dialogue and deepening the bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
