Deputy Minister Tlapa visited the State of Israel and the Palestinian Territories

 

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Martin Tlapa visited the State of Israel and the Palestinian Territories from September 25 – 29, 2016, accompanied by business delegation of Czech technological startups, ICT and innovation companies. During his visit, Deputy Minister Tlapa conducted annual political consultations with the Israeli and Palestinian Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem and Ramallah, discussed economic projects with business chambers in Jerusalem and Bethlehem, inaugurated economic projects financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tel Aviv and Gaza City and participated at the DLD Innovation Festival and Cities Summit in Tel Aviv. Last but not least, Deputy Minister Tlapa visited Czech development project supporting medical center in Gaza.

On September 27, 2016 Deputy Minister Tlapa supported the business delegation of Czech technological startups at the important innovation trade fair DLD Tel Aviv, which is regularly attended by representatives of Israeli and international risk capital funds, startup community and leading multinational companies. Martin Tlapa also participated at the business/networking event V4 Innovation Gateway, visited the successful startup project WeWork Israel, and discussed investment opportunities, the participation of Czech companies at important tenders in Israel and instruments for intensifying bilateral business cooperation with the Czech-Israeli Business Chamber.

On September 26, 2016, Deputy Minister Tlapa inaugurated the Matchmaking seminar for Czech and Palestinian ICT companies in Gaza City, which opened the door for establishing direct cooperation between Czech and Palestinian ICT experts. Similar projects are crucial for the young and educated society in Gaza, which has the interest and ambition to succeed despite the difficult living conditions in the Gaza Strip. At the same time, such projects help the Czech companies with finding new markets for outsourcing and investment.

Martin Tlapa also visited the Czech development project in the Gaza City that helps the Cerebral Palsy Center at the Future Palestine Healthcare with installation of solar panels. The project will provide electricity supply for 150 children treated in the center.

On September 28, 2016, Deputy Minister Tlapa visited the Honorary Consulate of the Czech Republic in Bethlehem, where he had the opportunity to meet the local business community.

During the regular political consultations with Israeli and Palestinian Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister Tlapa focused on strengthening the cooperation in political, economic, development and science, technology and research areas.

In Jerusalem on September 29, 2016, Deputy Minister Tlapa was received by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Hotovely and held discussions with representatives of relevant sections of the MFA of the State of Israel on bilateral economic, development, strategic and security cooperation. The consultations reviewed the outcome of the 4th Inter-Governmental consultations held in May 2016 in Jerusalem at the level of Prime Ministers and brought specific projects to be implemented before the next session of the Inter-Governmental consultations to be held in 2018. Martin Tlapa also met with the Chairman of the Foreign Trade Authority of the Ministry of Economy. The dialogue with partners confirmed the long term above standard relations between the Czech Republic and the State of Israel.

In Ramallah, the Deputy Minister Tlapa was received by Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad Malki, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tayseer Jaradat and DG Amal Jadou. The consultations were focused on reviewing the outcome of the first Joint Czech-Palestinian Commission that took place in 2015 and were focused on preparing concrete sector-based cooperation before the planned 2nd Joint Commission in 2017.
