Deputy Foreign Minister Kolaja at the Brussels Afghan Conference

Deputy Foreign Minister Václav Kolaja attented the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan on October 5, 2016. The Conference was co-hosted by the European Union and the Government of Afghanistan and brought together delegations from over 70 countries and 20 international organizations. The Conference sought to explore ways of building on existing stabilization and state-building efforts in Afghanistan.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kolaja stressed the importance of continuing Afghan political reforms. Without reforms no amount of international support can bring lasting solution to the country´s challenges. He also emphasized the need for closer cooperation between the EU and Afghanistan on migration issues.

The Czech Republic has long been active in supporting Afghanistan both militarily and financially. It contributes to the NATO Resolute Support Mission and has been providing funding for Afghan security forces and economic development.
