Minister Zaorálek Met His Libyan Counterpart

Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek met Mohammed Taher Siyala, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Libya, in the Czernin Palace on December 5th, 2016.

The Ministers discussed the state of play in the bilateral relations, and latest developments in Libya, and exchanged views on a number of regional issues and pressing problems, be it migration or terrorism.

In the course of the meeting, Minister Zaorálek pointed out that visit of Minister Siyala is among other things expression of Czech support for the Libyan Political Agreement and the Presidency Council. He called on all parties to the Libyan conflict to do their utmost and make the agreement work. Both Ministers also praised forces loyal to the Government of the National Accord, which just a few hours prior to the meeting gained full control of the city of Sirte, once the stronghold of the Libyan branch of the so-called Islamic State.

During his stay in Prague, Minister Siyala will also visit the Parliament of the Czech Republic. He is to be received by Mr. František Bublan, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Senate, and Mr. Karel Schwarzenberg, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives.
