Deputy Minister Tlapa Held Talks in Portugal

On February 24–26, 2017, Deputy Minister for Non-European Countries, Economic and Development Cooperation Martin Tlapa held a series of talks in Portugal. A potential for further enhancement of economic and trade cooperation was explored with Miguel Frasquilho, President of the AICEP, the government agency for investment and external trade. Martin Tlapa and Miguel Frasquilho exchanged views on organization of economic diplomacy in the Czech Republic and Portugal, on export promotion activities of both CzechTrade and AICEP as well as high-quality services provided by the respective governments to the business community. With Teresa Ribeiro, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Deputy Minister Tlapa discussed bilateral issues following the visit of President Miloš Zeman in Portugal in December 2016, and opportunities for mutual cooperation of the Czech Republic and Portugal in third countries, especially in Africa.
The Portuguese Secretary of State welcomed the decision of the Czech Republic to apply for observer's status at the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) that was granted in October 2016, and presented some opportunites that the associated membership provides to the Czech Republic. Deputy Minister Tlapa and Secretary of State Ribeiro exchanged views on different aspects of development assistance provided by both countries, on experience with the involvement of private sector in the development assistance and cooperation with international development organizations.
On February 25–26, Deputy Minister Tlapa presided over a meeting of Czech Ambassadors accredited to countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Heads of Missions together with representatives of line ministries (Agriculture, Home Affairs, and Defense) discussed political and security development in Africa, opportunities for Czech economic and trade cooperation including the field of agriculture, issues of migration, efficient management of development assistance and humanitarian aid.
