Deputy Minister Stašek Held Talks with Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia

On May 9, 2017 Deputy Minister Miloslav Stašek received Mongolian Deputy Minister of Environment and Tourism Tserendorj Batbayar. Their talks focused on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, the current political situation in the region as well as on significant foreign development aid projects of the Czech Republic that have been implemented in Mongolia.

Deputy Minister Stašek highlighted Czech Republic’s interest in foreign development aid projects in forestry, agriculture and environmental protection, while for the Czech Republic it is important that many of them remain sustainable as follow-up business activities or serve as the basis for wider projects such as multilateral donors.

Even though the Czech Republic still considers Mongolia a priority country for the development assistance within 2017, as of 2018 it shall be moved into the so-called "phase-out" countries and the development aid should be replaced by mutually beneficial commercial cooperation. In this context they agreed that the prospective area is mainly a cooperation in agriculture and food industry but also energy, forestry, water management and environmental technologies. Though, the potential for further development of mutual commercial and economic relations has not yet been fulfilled.
