On May 12, 2017, bilateral political consultations between the Czech Republic and Peru took place at the level of Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs in the Czernin Palace. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Miloslav Stašek and Vice Minister of Foreign Relations of Peru Néstor Popolizio discussed a number of bilateral and multilateral issues.

Both partners agreed on the need to strengthen trade and economic activities. They also discussed the possibilities of cooperation following the devastating floods in Peru as well as the continuation of the traditional cooperation of the Peruvian authorities with Czech scientists in the field of natural sciences. Deputy Minister Stašek mentioned the interest of the Czech Republic in concluding an agreement on the protection and support of investments and in cooperating in the field of security and civil protection. Peru aspires to become an OECD member and has asked the Czech Republic to support its candidacy.

Both sides commemorated on this occasion the 95th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the former Czechoslovakia and Peru.
