Deputy Minister Kolaja at EU Foreign Affairs Council

Deputy Foreign Minister Václav Kolaja on May 19, 2017 in Brussels attended EU Foreign Affairs Council of Ministers responsible for development.

The main topics of the summit were the humanitarian crisis in Africa and Yemen and the new agreement between the EU and Africa following the expiration of current agreement in 2020. Deputy Minister Kolaja introduced current Czech participation in resolving humanitarian crises and expressed willingness of the Czech Republic to further contribute with assistance to affected countries, especially in strengthening their resilience to crises.

The European Council for Development is a forum where Ministers of the Member States of the European Union meet to discuss actual development cooperation topics and topics related with mutual relations between European Union and developing countries. In the long term, the issue of EU relations with African countries is addressed in this forum. Africa is typically perceived and discussed as an opportunity for the development of trade and for application of European know-how to address climate and social challenges.
