Czech Chairmanship in the Council of Europe Presented to Diplomatic Corps

 

Deputy Minister Šrámek met with ambassadors of Member and Observer States of the Council of Europe on May 24, 2017 to present the priorities and the program of the Czech Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

While presenting the Chairmanship, Deputy Minister Šrámek emphasized its significance for the Czech Republic that chairs the Council of Europe from May 19 till November 15, 2017 for the second time in its history. Over 20 expert events building upon the priorities of the Czech Chairmanship will take place in the Czech Republic and abroad during the upcoming six months.

Deputy Minister Šrámek asked for cooperation towards strengthening human rights, democracy and the rule of law which, according to his own words, represent “our common mission in the Council of Europe”.

The Council of Europe consists of 47 Member States of the European continent. (The only non-member country is Belarus). The USA, Canada, Mexico, the Holy See and Japan have Observer Status of the Committee of Ministers and Canada, Israel and Mexico are Observer States of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly.
