Minister Zaorálek Will Open International Conference “Africa as a Partner”

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Lubomír Zaorálek will deliver an opening address at the international conference “Africa as a Partner” that is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 25, 2017 on the occasion of the traditional Africa Day and the forthcoming 5th Summit EU-Africa (November 29–30, 2017, Abidjan, Ivory Coast). The conference aims to present Africa as a modern continent with a dynamic and enterprising population. The conference strives to highlight rising opportunities in Africa as well as need for well-balanced partnerships, promoting economic and trade cooperation and engaging the private sector.
Minister of Agriculture Marian Jurečka and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Non-European Countries and Economic and Development Cooperation Martin Tlapa will also address the audience. The event will host a number of distinguished speakers from African countries, European External Action Service (EEAS), European Commission, USA, OECD, from the public administration as well as the private sector. The conference is targeted for the business sector, academic sphere, non-governmental sector and diplomatic community. African students enrolled at Czech universities will also attend. The conference will be held in Czech and English, with simultaneous interpretation.
The conference will be followed by a reception in the garden of the Czernin Palace that is organised in cooperation with the Embassies of African countries resident in Prague.
To celebrate the Africa Day this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs joined forces with other institutions:
- Czech Development Agency and Institute of International Relations that will screen an Africa-related documentary on May 24
- Václav Havel Library that will organise a public debate on human rights on May 24
- Art festival “Creative Africa”.
