Deputy Minister Václav Kolaja, along with Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta Prince Dominique de La Rochefoucauld-Montbell on June 1, 2017, in Rome launched  the International Conference on Child Victims of Armed Conflicts. The conference was organized by the Sovereign Order of Malta and the Embassy of the Czech Republic to the Holy See in cooperation with UNICEF, the European Union, the Council of Europe and the Holy See Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. Conference was part of a number of events commemorating the 75th anniversary of the annihilation of the Czech village of Lidice by the Nazi army during World War II.

In his address Deputy Minister Kolaja emphasized the importance of coordinated extensive international humanitarian assistance aimed at children in armed conflicts, the need to enforce national legal frameworks in the field of child protection, and the necessity to implement prevention and reintegration programs. Václav Kolaja also talked about the Czech MEDEVAC program that has been providing medical help to the most vulnerable people in war or disaster-hit countries for more than 20 years.
