Deputy Minister Kolaja Met with Delegation of Former Political Prisoners of Myanmar/Burma Headed by Vice Speaker of Parliament

 

On September 4, 2017, Deputy Foreign Minister Václav Kolaja met with Aye Thar Aung, Vice Speaker of the Parliament of the Union of Myanmar and other former Burmese political prisoners and members of Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).

The topics of the discussion focused mainly on the exchange of experience of the transition from a totalitarian regime to a democratic one. Deputy Minister Kolaja appreciated the excellent relations between Czech Republic and Myanmar/Burma, and reassured that Czech Republic stands ready to continue to provide its helping hand to our friends building democratic institutions in Myanmar/Burma. Vice Speaker Aye Thar Aung highlighted the ongoing respect and special relations of his country and people to Czech Republic and the unique role of late President Václav Havel and Nobel Peace Prize Awardee Aung San Suu Kyi in deepening our ties.

Deputy Minister Václav Kolaja and Vice Speaker Aye Thar Aung also exchanged their views on the current political development in Myanmar/Burma.

The visit of the delegation of the former political prisoners from Myanmar/Burma is a part of the Program of Transformation Cooperation instrument. The visit was jointly organized by Burma Center Prague and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
