Deputy Minister Smolek Visited Council of Europe

 

Martin Smolek, Deputy Minister for Legal and Consular Affairs, visited the Council of Europe on September 20, 2017 in order to moderate a seminar on “State Immunity under International Law and Current Challenges” organized in the framework of the Czech Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and on the occasion of the 54th meeting of the CAHDI. Petr Válek, the Director of the International Law Department, gave a speech on this seminar on topic “The Origins and Relevance of the Declaration on Jurisdictional Immunities of State Owned Cultural Property”, which originated on the basis of common initiative of the Czech Republic and Austria.

On the margins of this event the Deputy Minister Smolek handed over a book gift to the library of the European Court on Human Rights. The professional law publications were provided thanks to a kind support of a renowned publisher Wolters Kluwer, and are expression of support of the Czech Republic to the activities of the Court as one of the key guarantor of the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms on European continent.

During this visit to the Council of Europe, the Deputy Minister Smolek met the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland on September 21,2017.

On this occasion, the Deputy Minister Smolek handed over to the depositary the instruments of ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism, Additional Protocol to the Council of Europe Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism and Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs.
