The Czech – U.S. Strategic Dialogue Held in Prague

The Czech MFA hosted the 8th round of the Czech – U.S. Strategic Dialogue on June 21, 2018. The U.S. delegation, led by Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell, was received by the Deputy Ministers Ivo Šrámek and Martin Tlapa. The Strategic Dialogue serves as a confirmation of a longstanding partnership between the Czech Republic and the USA. This year we are celebrating 100 years since the foundation of the independent Czechoslovakia, recognizing the important role that the United States played in the process.

During a very open and frank strategic dialogue, the partners stressed the importance of the transatlantic partnership which both countries strive to foster. The discussions focused on cooperation on security issues and defence, upcoming NATO summit as well as regional issues such as Visegrad Group, Eastern Partnership and Western Balkans. Among the discussed topics were also the trade and investment issues as well as energy security. Partners reconfirmed the importance of regular consultations, particularly in issues of divergence, in order to strengthen our alliance.
