Minister Petříček received the new Ambassador of Finland

 

On 1st November 2018, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček received Jukka Uolevi Pesola, new Ambassador of Finland at the commencement of his diplomatic mission in the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic and Finland share a long history of strong and close relations and enjoy fruitful cooperation in a wide range of areas. Finland is a valuable dialogue partner for the Czech Republic on European and world affairs. Minister Petříček described the bilateral relations between both countries as very good. Both countries are members of the European Union, Finland also being a member of the Economic and Monetary Union (Eurozone). They share either the same, or very similar positions on the most crucial issues of the EU agenda. Finland is our important trading partner. Both interlocutors expressed satisfaction over the trade turnover that has been steadily rising since 2014 when it exceeded the threshold of 1 billion EURO. In 2017 the turnover of bilateral trade reached 34 billion CZK (1,29 billion EUR).

Andrej Babiš, Czech Prime Minister paid a successful working visit to Finland in May 2018. Prime Ministers Andrej Babiš and Juha Sipilä stated that the Czech Republic and Finland should deepen their cooperation within the European Union. In the second half of 2019, Finland will be playing an important role of the Presidency in the Council of the European Union.
