Minister Petříček received the new Ambassador of Norway

 

On November 1, 2018, Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček received Robert Kvile, new Ambassador of  the Kingdom of Norway in the Czech Republic. Both representatives appreciated high level of the Czech-Norwegian relations. The Ambassador also handed over a letter by the Norvegian Foreign Minister Ine Søreide who inter allia wrote that Norway and the Czech Republic share a long history of strong and close relations and enjoy fruitful cooperation in a wide range of areas.

The Minister stated that currently the Czech Republic was taking part in the NATO´s largest military training since 2002 „Trident Juncture 2018“ in Norway. Thanks to the the fact that  the Czech Republic and Norway are together in the European Economic Area trade relations between the Czech Republic and Norway have a great potencial to further deepen. The trade turnover between both countries reached almost 25 billion CZK in 2017. The conversation also focused on some topics of international politics, mainly on security issues and multilateral relations. The views of both countries  on most issues are very close or similar. The Ambassador presented Norway as an active, succesful and respected player on the international scene. Therefore, the Norwegian government decided to put forward Norway´s candidature for non-permament membership in the UN Security Council for the period of 2021 – 2022. In this connection, the Ambassador asked for the Czech support of this candidacy.
